info

Thanks for stopping by CopCare911. It is our intention to provide a place where Law Enforcement Officers, both active and retired, may come for information.
We provide information and support to the officer who is struggling with the profession or just needs to talk. We undertand the difficulty of finding someone who will hold confidence as we are taught about the issues of trust.
We also provide continuing education in the areas of stress, depression and suicide prevention as well as relationship issues.

In Memory of Indiana State Trooper Andrew "Andy" Winzenread
who was killed by a truck, April 25, 1997, on I-74 near Greensburg, Indiana
"In the Line-of-Duty"
The newspaper mast-head screams!
Another life is over,
A waste, or so it seems.
The trucker that played that deadly game
Has taken one of our own,
Leaving his wife and little child
Weeping in their home
Just a "Motorist assist, a 10-46"
Turned into "policeman's tag,"
"See how close you can get to him,"
But he goes home in a body bag.
The object of this silly game
Is to see his hat take flight,
But no one ever expected him
To step into the road that night.
So, now, over ten years ago
This hero gave his life,
Leaving his child to be raised
Alone by his loving wife.
Who would have ever imagined
That they should fear truckers more than guns.
Now the law has been enacted
To protect our fathers and our sons.
So, when you see those flashing lights ahead
And move over to the other lanes,
Remember the ones who've lost their lives
To the truckers' deadly games.

Note: I was an active Police Officer when this incident occurred. I had met Trooper Winzenead just two weeks before this incident. He had just been assigned to Decatur County. I was looking forward to working with him. At the cemetery I stood in formation directly across
from his widow and new born infant. That was very difficult. Keep your life in order as we never know when we will be called upon to pay the supreme price.
Dr. Michael Layne

Who we are
CopCare911 was developed by Dr. Michael and Donna Layne. Mike has spent several years in Law Enforcement and the ministry. He holds a doctorate in Theology and a PhD in Counseling Psychology. He is also the Official Chaplain for the National Reserve Law Officer's Association.
The Laynes became aware of the need to reach out to the Law Enforcement community after Mike had given an in-service training at the Criminal Justice Institute in Troy, Ohio. CJI was an in-patient stress center designed for Law Enforcement personnel only.
Unfortunately, CJI no longer exists but the need is even greater to provide care and consultation to our brothers and sisters in LE.
A Note from Dr. Paul Whitesell, Indiana State Police Superintendent
Dr. Layne, Your web site looks
useful and I sincerely wish you
much success as you endeavor to
help those within the police
profession. With your
background, I am certain that
you are very well placed with this
work. I am glad you are there."
Leon Schumacher, Director National Reserve Law Officers Association.Thank you, Dr. Layne, for all you do for LEOs. There is a great need out there for your services; and we are sure that God will lead them to you.

Be sure to ask for your FREE copy of The Peacemakers. Filled with some inspirational stories from other LE Officers and a pocket New Testament. Go to the Contact page and send us your information for your FREE copy.
